This article is relevant for Templafy users using Templafy Productivity Tools and have encountered Excel Links not working when trying to Link cells and tables from Excel to PowerPoint. All existing Links should continue to work, this article is in reference to new Links.

Expected user experience

When copying a cell or table from Excel (CTRL + C) and pasting to PowerPoint (CTRL + V), the user should be met with the Link option.

Current user experience

When copying a cell or table from Excel (CTRL + C) and pasting to PowerPoint (CTRL + V), the user is not met with the Link option.

Cause

Microsoft changed the copy and paste handling which can also be experienced even when not using Templafy.

What we currently know

Microsoft has released version 2608 on the Beta channel release track where the Links functionality for cells and tables is confirmed to be working. Version 2608 is also released on the Current Channel. Based on Microsoft release cycles, it is expected that version 2608 will be released to the monthly channel in September. More information on Microsoft release channels can be found in their guide here.

Workaround

The workarounds below require elevated administrative permissions on user’s machines.

  • Revert to an earlier version of Microsoft Office using the steps provided by Microsoft as per the guide here.
