Offline templates

About this article

This article explains the Offline templates module in the following sections:

Prerequisites

  • Library and Offline templates modules enabled
  • Templafy Desktop 3.4.51 or above
  • Library VSTO add-in 7.1.79 or above
  • Offline templates are only available for PC (does not work for Macs, Office Online, Google Workspace or Citrix)

How does Offline templates work?

Offline templates allows admins to make up to 5 templates per template library per space available to users when working offline. Content that is enabled for Offline availability is locally saved on the user's machine through Templafy desktop updates under %LocalAppData%\Templafy\AddIns\OfflineContent.

How is offline content updated?

As Offline templates is synchronized with the Templafy Desktop update mechanism, admin updates made to offline content will be pushed to end-users with the next Templafy Desktop update.

What if Offline is deactivated for a template/ as a module altogether?

If individual templates are deactivated for Offline, they will be removed from the users machine. If the entire Offline templates module is deactivated, all Offline files will be deleted from the user's PC.

How does Templafy determine if a user is offline?

When the library task pane starts, it will try to make a call to [tenant].templafy.com. If the user is online, the library task pane will start as usual. If the user is offline, the library task pane will notify the user of their offline status.  While offline, Templafy will try to reconnect to the [tenant].templafy.com every 5 seconds except for the Composer window which needs to be manually triggered by clicking the Reload Templafy button in the Offline view.

How does Templafy handle download requests for Offline templates to the Templafy tenant (Network throttling)?

To control the amount of download requests for Offline Templates sent to the Templafy tenant, Templafy assigns download slots of max 250 concurrent users per tenant and max 50 users per IP address.
