Troubleshooting incompatible slide errors in Document Agent

If a slide contains unsupported PowerPoint elements, Document Agent cannot use it during presentation generation. The validation report identifies the reason so you can update the template.

This article provides a comprehensive overview of errors that can occur when using Document Agent, with explanations of their meaning and potential solutions.

  Prerequisites

  • Library and Universal Document Agent or Custom Document Agent modules enabled.
  • Admin or owner access to your Templafy tenant.

Before you begin

All of the issues below are resolved using the same workflow in the AI Agents section:

  1. Select the checkbox next to the slide marked 'Incompatible'.
  2. Select 'Download slide'.
  3. Open the slide in PowerPoint
  4. Make the required changes described below.
  5. Save the PowerPoint slide.
  6. Select the ... icon > Replace.
  7. Upload slide to replace it.

  Tip

To view the incompatible slide error message, hover over the 'Incompatible' tag.

Incompatible slide errors

Contains unsupported element: Embedded object

This error indicates that the slide contains an embedded PowerPoint object that Document Agent does not support.

Examples include (but are not limited to):
  • Embedded files
  • Unsupported chart types
  • 3D models
  • PowerPoint Zoom
  • Microsoft Forms

Solution: Remove the unsupported object from the slide.

Contains unsupported element: SmartArt

This error indicates that the slide contains a SmartArt object. Document Agent cannot edit SmartArt.

Solution: Replace the SmartArt with standard PowerPoint shapes and text boxes.

No shapes found

This error indicates that the slide does not contain any editable PowerPoint objects. This commonly occurs when all visible content comes from the Slide Master and the slide itself contains no editable shapes.

Solution: Add at least one editable PowerPoint object to the slide, such as:

  • A text box
  • A shape
  • An image placeholder

Once the slide contains editable objects, Document Agent can use it.

Other

For any unsupported shape type, the recommended solution is to download the affected slide, replace the unsupported shape with a supported one in PowerPoint, and re-upload the slide.
