How to restrict data source editing to specific users

This article explains how to manage segregated data source permissions in the Admin Center.

  Prerequisites

Segregated data source permissions

Without permissions, a data source can be edited by all tenant admins and owners (and partners) and viewed by all space owners. Applying permissions to a data source prevents unauthorized editing of the data source structure and the data. The granular control over data sources, ensures that only authorized users have edit permissions.

Setting up permissions

Data Source

  1. When creating a new data source, the default permissions mentioned above will be set.
  2. After clicking the Create button, you can edit the permissions.
    • Click on the newly created data source, then on the three-dot ellipsis and select Permissions.
    • Update the permissions per user, if necessary, and click Save.
  3. If necessary, Move the data source into a folder to have the permissions automatically set from the root folder.

  Important

It is not possible to provide edit rights to user groups, only to an individual owner, admin, or space owner, because a user group can consist of users without the required role to access data sources.

Folder

  1. When creating a new folder, the default permissions mentioned above will be set.
  2. After clicking the Create button, you can edit the permissions.
    • Click on the newly created folder, then on the three-dot ellipsis and select Permissions.
    • Update the permissions per user, if necessary, and click Save.

  Important

Permissions can only be set on the root folder and will apply to all subfolder and data sources within the root.

Manage data sources in bulk

Select all data sources you want to edit and select Manage edit access to update edit permissions or select Move to move the data sources into a specific folder/subfolder.
