Content connector images in Document Agents

Use content connectors to let Document Agents search external image or DAM systems when generating presentations. Document Agents search the Templafy Image Library first. If no suitable image is found there, they can search enabled content connectors and insert an image from the connector result.

  Prerequisites

  • Admin access to the Templafy tenant.
  • Document Agents enabled.
  • The capability for Document Agents to use content connector images must be enabled for the tenant.
  • Content Connectors must be enabled, and at least one content connector must be installed and enabled in Integrations.
  • The connector must use tenant-level authentication that does not require each end user to sign in during presentation generation.
  • The connector must expose searchable image assets, or image virtual libraries.
  • The layouts used by the Document Agent must contain image placeholders that the agent can populate.

How content connector images are used

Content connector images are used as a fallback source during presentation generation. The user does not manually select a connector image while creating the presentation.

  1. The Document Agent creates an image search query from the slide content and the image placeholder.
  2. The agent searches the Templafy Image Library locations available to the user in their spaces.
  3. If no image is picked from the Templafy Image Library, the agent searches enabled content connectors that support tenant-level authentication.
  4. If a connector exposes virtual libraries, the agent searches image virtual libraries and ignores non-image virtual libraries.
  5. The first image returned by the first connector with search results is sent to presentation assembly and inserted into the generated presentation.

  Note

Content connector images do not replace the Templafy Image Library. The Templafy Image Library is always searched first. A content connector is only searched when no library image is selected.

Set up an image content connector

For more information about Content Connectors and how they are configured in Integrations Management, see Content Connectors.

  1. In the Admin Center, go to Integrations.
  2. Open the Available tab to install a new content connector, or open the Installed tab to edit an existing connector.
  3. Configure a connector listed under Content Connectors.
  4. Configure authentication so the connector can be used without end-user sign-in during generation.
  5. Make sure the connector exposes image assets. If the connector uses virtual libraries, make sure at least one virtual library has the asset type Image.
  6. Use titles, tags, descriptions, and other searchable metadata that match the kinds of image requests users are likely to make in Document Agents.
  7. Click Save.

Use the connector in Document Agents

There is no separate content connector picker in the Document Agent setup. Once the connector and tenant capability are enabled, Document Agents can use connector images automatically when generating presentations with image placeholders.

  1. Create or edit a Document Agent.
  2. Use layouts that contain image placeholders.
  3. Publish the agent.
  4. Ask the end user to create a presentation with the agent.
  5. If the Templafy Image Library does not return a selected image for a placeholder, the agent can search the enabled content connectors and insert a connector image.

  Important

  • Admins cannot currently choose the content connector search order.
  • The agent currently uses the first asset returned by the first content connector that returns search results.
  • End users cannot review or choose between connector image candidates during generation.

Search behavior and limitations

  • Content connectors are searched only after the Templafy Image Library search does not pick an image.
  • For regular image searches, the agent converts the image request into one or two broad keywords before searching content connectors.
  • For icon placeholders, the agent uses the icon-specific search query.
  • Templafy Image Library role filtering, image size filtering, and headshot name matching do not apply to the content connector fallback search.
  • If a connector exposes virtual libraries, only image virtual libraries are searched. Non-image virtual libraries are ignored.
  • If the selected connector asset cannot be downloaded during presentation assembly, the connector image is not inserted.

Troubleshooting

Issue Possible cause What to check
A connector image is not used. A suitable image was found in the Templafy Image Library first. Check whether the Templafy Image Library already contains a matching image for the same query.
No connector images are found. The connector is disabled, requires end-user authentication, or does not expose searchable image assets. Confirm that the connector is enabled, uses tenant-level authentication, and exposes image assets or image virtual libraries.
The wrong connector image is inserted. The connector returned that asset before more relevant assets. Improve the image metadata in the source system, or adjust the connector content so its search results rank the preferred images first.
The image placeholder remains empty. The connector asset could not be downloaded during presentation assembly. Check that the asset still exists in the source system and that the connector can download the image.
The feature is not available. The tenant capability is not enabled. Contact Templafy Support to confirm whether the capability is enabled for the tenant.
