Troubleshooting Edit Agent

Use this article to resolve common issues when working with Edit Agent in PowerPoint.

I cannot see Edit Agent

Edit Agent may not be enabled for your organization or user account.

Contact your admin to confirm that:

  • Edit Agent is enabled for your users.
  • Users are in PowerPoint.
  • The required Templafy and Microsoft Office access is available.

I see a message about missing presentation layouts

Edit Agent needs approved presentation layouts to generate new slides.

Contact your admin if you need access to layouts.

Admins should confirm that:

  • The required presentation layouts are available.
  • The default presentation template is ready, if your organization uses one.
  • Users have permission to access the layouts.

Edit Agent is not editing my existing slide

If Edit Agent is not changing the slide:

  • Make sure the correct slide is open.
  • Select the shape or content you want Edit Agent to change.
  • Make the request more specific.
  • Try sending a follow-up request.

I see a warning that the presentation may be broken or unsupported

Edit Agent may warn you if the open presentation cannot be read or edited reliably. This can happen if the presentation is damaged, has unsupported slide structures, or contains content that prevents Edit Agent from working with the slide as expected.

This warning helps avoid wasted time because Edit Agent may not be able to make accurate changes until the presentation is fixed.

Try one of the following:

  • Save a copy of the presentation and try again in the copy.
  • Move the content to a new presentation based on an approved template.
  • Try the request on a different slide to check whether the issue is limited to one slide.
  • Contact your admin if the warning continues.

Admins should confirm that:

  • The presentation opens and saves correctly in PowerPoint.
  • The slides use supported layouts and masters.
  • The presentation is based on an approved template where possible.
  • The user has access to the layouts and Library content required for the request.

File upload is not working

Check that the file is supported.

Supported file types include:

  • .docx.
  • .xlsx.
  • .pptx.
  • .pdf.
  • .png.
  • .jpg.
  • .jpeg.
  • .gif.
  • .webp.

You can upload up to 3 files in a conversation. Each file can be up to 50 MB. Image files can be up to 10 MB.

The slide based on my image is not what I expected

Uploaded images are used as visual context. If the generated slide does not follow the image closely enough:

  • Use a clearer image.
  • Tell Edit Agent which part of the image structure matters most.
  • Add the exact topic, audience, and text content you want on the slide.
  • Upload a source document if the slide should be based on specific business information.

Edit Agent added the wrong item to a group of shapes

If Edit Agent updates the wrong part of a slide:

  • Select the group, timeline, card row, or shapes you want it to focus on.
  • Tell Edit Agent where the new item should appear.
  • Provide the exact label or content for the new item.
  • Ask Edit Agent to fix spacing or alignment after the item is added.

Edit Agent cannot find the Library content I expected

Library results depend on the content and permissions available to the user.

Admins should confirm that:

  • The content exists in the Templafy Library.
  • The user has permission to access the content.
  • The content has clear names, descriptions, or image alt text.
  • The content has not been archived or removed.

Edit Agent asks a follow-up question

Edit Agent asks questions when it needs more information before continuing. Answer the question to help Edit Agent complete the request.

If the question is optional, you can skip it.

Slide generation takes longer than expected

Creating a slide can take time while Edit Agent prepares content, adds visuals, and finalizes the slide.

If needed, stop the current request and try again with a more specific prompt.

Something went wrong

Try one of the following:

  • Retry the request.
  • Start a new conversation.
  • Reopen the Templafy task pane.
  • Reopen the presentation.
  • Contact your admin if the issue continues.
